Beat Box

Are you ready to throw down some amazing beats? Now you can, with our virtual beat box.

Start by throwing up some tiles on the board. The beat will start playing when you press the play button. Stop the beat by pressing the stop button. Start over by pressing the trash can button. You can remove tiles from the board by dragging them off the board and releasing them. The beat moves from left to right. Tiles that are in the same vertical column will play at the same time.

As you experiment, you’ll notice that the different colors have different sound qualities to them. While the green tiles sound like an organ, the yellow keys are drum or percussive beats, and the blue tiles sound like a horn. The letters and numbers on the tiles represent the same notes on the virtual piano. In other words, the C1 is the lowest note, while the C4 is the highest “C.”

See what beat you can come up with! Can you make a scale? Can you write your own song? Or recreate “Mary Had a Little Lamb?” Experimenting with the virtual beat box is fun and informative for music students.

How can you use the virtual piano? It’s a great music classroom tool. Plug in some headphones and allow students to explore on their own. Or, project it onto your smartboard and teach the whole class! The virtual piano is fun, engaging, and a great way to learn the basics of music.
